Description
Description
The Yellowtail Damselfish, *Chrysiptera parasema*, is a vibrant and popular choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists. Its striking electric blue body contrasts beautifully with its bright yellow tail, making it a captivating addition to any marine aquarium.
Reaching a maximum size of approximately 3 inches in the home aquarium, the Yellowtail Damselfish is well-suited for tanks as small as 20 gallons. Provide plenty of live rock and hiding places to mimic its natural reef environment and offer security. While generally peaceful, they can become territorial, especially as they mature or in smaller tanks. It is best to introduce them as one of the last fish in a community tank.
The Yellowtail Damselfish is an omnivore and readily accepts a varied diet. Offer a mix of high-quality flake food, pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and marine algae. Feeding small amounts multiple times a day is recommended.
Breeding in the home aquarium is possible but can be challenging. There are no readily apparent visual differences between males and females. Like many damselfish, they are substrate spawners and will lay eggs in a protected area.
