Description
Description
The Yellow Clown Goby, *Gobiodon okinawae*, is a charming and popular addition to the reef aquarium. This small, vibrant yellow goby is known for its peaceful demeanor and interesting behavior.
A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended for the Yellow Clown Goby. They are often found perched on or nestled within the branches of stony corals, particularly *Acropora* species, which they use for shelter and as a spawning site. While generally reef-safe, they may occasionally nip at the polyps of stony corals, especially if food is scarce. Providing ample live rock and coral structures will offer them plenty of hiding places and perching spots.
In the aquarium, the Yellow Clown Goby typically reaches a size of about 1.5 inches. They are relatively easy to feed and will accept a variety of small, meaty foods. Their diet should consist of enriched brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and other high-quality frozen or live foods. They may also pick at algae and detritus in the tank.
Yellow Clown Gobies are hermaphroditic and can change sex. While breeding in captivity is possible, it can be challenging. There are no readily distinguishable external differences between males and females. They are generally peaceful towards other fish but may exhibit territorial behavior towards conspecifics or other gobies in smaller tanks. It is best to keep them singly or in a bonded pair.
