Description
The Favia Coral is a popular large-polyp stony coral prized for its vivid coloration, attractive patterns and relatively forgiving care requirements. Depending on the individual specimen, colors may include green, red, orange, purple, blue and yellow, often with contrasting centers and brightly colored polyp walls.
Favia generally performs best under low to moderate lighting with low to moderate, indirect water flow. Adequate flow helps keep debris from settling on the colony while allowing the fleshy polyps to expand naturally.
Although primarily photosynthetic, Favia readily accepts supplemental foods. Occasional target feeding with mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood or quality LPS coral foods can encourage growth and healthy tissue expansion.
Favia can be aggressive toward neighboring corals and may extend sweeper tentacles after dark. Provide adequate spacing around the colony to prevent stinging and tissue damage to nearby corals.
With stable reef parameters, appropriate lighting and sufficient space, Favia can grow into a colorful and long-lasting centerpiece in a reef aquarium.

Please Note: “Favia” is commonly used as a trade name in the aquarium industry. Some corals historically sold as Favia have since been reclassified into other genera, including Dipsastraea. Coloration and growth pattern will vary between individual specimens.
