Naso vlamingii—better known as the Vlamingi Tang—is a commanding, generally reef-safe grazer that brings nonstop motion and personality to very large marine systems. Juveniles show soft gray-brown tones with faint spots; adults develop electric blue speckling, golden accents, and elegant fin streamers, flashing dramatic colors during displays. This active swimmer needs broad, open lanes, strong oxygenation, and abundant mature live rock to browse; plan for a truly spacious aquarium (240–300+ gallons). Typically peaceful, it may posture toward other tangs—especially similarly shaped species—so keep singly or add last. Feed a varied, algae-focused diet (nori/seaweed clips, spirulina pellets, quality herbivore blends) with occasional mysis to maintain color and condition. While considered a reef safe fish, like many large Naso it may sample fleshy LPS if underfed; frequent feedings help keep it focused on film algae and diatoms.
