Description
Description
The Queen Angelfish, *Holacanthus ciliaris*, is a majestic and highly sought-after angelfish known for its vibrant coloration and graceful presence. Its body is primarily a brilliant blue with yellow accents, and a distinctive "crown" marking on its forehead.
A minimum tank size of 150 gallons is recommended for a single Queen Angelfish, with ample live rock providing hiding places and grazing opportunities. While stunning, the Queen Angelfish is not considered reef safe as it is known to nip at stony and soft corals, as well as clam mantles.
Queen Angelfish are hermaphroditic and breeding in captivity is extremely challenging. There are no easily distinguishable visual differences between males and females. Their diet should consist of a variety of foods including Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods.
