Description

The Orange Spot Amblygobius decussatus Goby, also known as the Orange Spotted Goby or Orange-spotted Sleeper Goby, is a peaceful and industrious sand-sifting goby. Its body is primarily white to light tan with distinct orange spots scattered across its head and body. A prominent orange stripe runs horizontally from behind the eye to the tail.

A minimum of a 30-gallon aquarium with a sand bed of at least 2 inches is recommended to allow this goby to exhibit its natural sifting behavior. They are excellent at keeping the sand bed clean by constantly sifting through it for food. While generally reef-safe, they may occasionally stir up sand and potentially cover lower-lying corals.

It is difficult to distinguish between males and females. The Orange Spot Goby is a carnivore and its diet should consist of a variety of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and other small frozen or live invertebrates. They will also consume small benthic organisms found in the sand bed. In a well-established aquarium, they may find enough food by sifting, but supplemental feeding is necessary. They typically reach a size of about 4-5 inches in an aquarium.
