Description
Description
The Sixspine Butterflyfish (Parachaetodon ocellatus), also known as the Ocellate or Eye‑spot Butterflyfish, is a striking but specialist species prized for its bold bands and dorsal eyespot. Native to the Indo‑Pacific—from India and Sri Lanka through the Philippines, northern Australia, and up to the Ryukyu Islands—it is less commonly available due to its finicky feeding needs and sensitivity to water quality. With its peaceful nature and grazing habits, it suits large, stable aquariums. However, this species is best kept by intermediate hobbyists: it requires frequent feeding, a varied omnivorous diet, and may nip on corals, clams or small crustaceans. Prospective keepers should plan accordingly and ensure an established tank to support its specialized lifestyle.
