Description
Description
The Majestic Angelfish, also known as the Blue Girdled Angelfish, is a stunning and highly sought-after species for the experienced marine aquarist. Its body is a vibrant yellow, dramatically contrasted by a broad, iridescent blue band that runs vertically behind the pectoral fins. The fins are edged in bright blue, and the tail is a striking yellow.
A minimum tank size of 180 gallons is recommended to provide ample swimming space and a stable environment. This species requires a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding places. While generally peaceful towards tankmates, they can be territorial towards other angelfish. The Majestic Angelfish is not considered reef safe, as it is known to nip at stony and soft corals, as well as clam mantles.
Distinguishing between males and females is difficult, and breeding in captivity is rare. Their diet should consist of a variety of foods including Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods. In the wild, they can reach sizes up to 12 inches, but typically remain smaller in an aquarium, reaching around 8-10 inches.
