Description

The Macropharyngodon meleagris, commonly known as the Leopard Wrasse, is a striking and active addition to the marine aquarium. Its body is adorned with a beautiful pattern of dark spots on a lighter background, giving it a distinctive leopard-like appearance.

A minimum tank size of 50 gallons is recommended for the Leopard Wrasse. Originating from the Indo-Pacific region, this species is considered to have an intermediate care level. They are known for their sand-dwelling behavior, often burying themselves in the substrate at night or when startled. Therefore, a deep sand bed is essential for their well-being.

In the aquarium, the Leopard Wrasse will actively forage for small invertebrates in the sand. Their diet should consist of a variety of meaty foods, including frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and other high-quality marine foods. They are generally peaceful towards other fish but may be territorial with other wrasses, especially those of similar size or appearance. They typically reach a moderate size in captivity.
