Description
The Kryptonite Candy Cane Coral is a vibrant color variety of the popular Candy Cane or Trumpet Coral. Its large, fleshy polyps display an intense fluorescent green coloration that becomes especially striking under actinic and blue LED lighting.
Candy Cane Corals are among the more forgiving LPS corals and are a great option for aquarists beginning to keep stony corals. They generally perform best under low to moderate lighting with low to moderate, indirect water flow. Excessively strong flow can prevent the fleshy polyps from fully expanding.
The Kryptonite Candy Cane receives much of its nutrition through photosynthesis but readily accepts supplemental foods. Occasional target feeding with mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood or quality coral foods can encourage faster growth and fuller polyp expansion.
As the colony grows, individual heads can divide and develop into a larger branching colony. Although Candy Cane Corals are relatively peaceful compared with many LPS corals, they can produce short sweeper tentacles and should be provided with some space from neighboring corals.
With its brilliant coloration, straightforward care requirements and attractive branching growth, the Kryptonite Candy Cane is an excellent addition to both beginner and established reef aquariums.
