The Keyhole Angelfish, also known as the Keyhole Angel, is a striking dwarf angelfish recognized by its deep blue to black body adorned with a prominent white or pale blue "keyhole" shaped marking just behind the pectoral fin. The edges of the dorsal and anal fins are often outlined in a vibrant blue.
A minimum of a 70-gallon tank is recommended for the Keyhole Angelfish, providing ample swimming space and plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding. While generally considered one of the more "reef-safe" dwarf angelfish, there is still a risk that they may nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles, especially if not well-fed.
Like other dwarf angelfish, the Keyhole Angelfish is hermaphroditic and breeding in an aquarium is very challenging. There are no easily distinguishable visual differences between males and females. Their diet should consist of a variety of foods including Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, and mysis or frozen shrimp. They will also graze on algae in the aquarium. In a home aquarium, they typically reach a size of around 6 inches.
