Description
The Green Hydnophora is an eye-catching stony coral prized for its brilliant green coloration, unusual textured surface and impressive growth. Depending on the species and individual colony, Hydnophora may develop branching, encrusting or mound-like growth forms.
Hydnophora is considered relatively hardy compared with many other SPS corals, making it a great choice for reef keepers looking to move into more demanding stony corals. Stable calcium, alkalinity and magnesium levels are important for maintaining healthy skeletal growth.
Provide moderate to high lighting and moderate to strong, turbulent water flow. Good water movement helps prevent detritus from accumulating within the coral's textured surface while delivering oxygen and nutrients to the colony.
Green Hydnophora receives much of its nutrition through photosynthesis but can also benefit from occasional feedings of small planktonic or finely prepared coral foods.
One of the most important considerations with Hydnophora is its aggressive nature. It can extend powerful sweeper tentacles capable of damaging neighboring corals, so generous spacing should be provided around the colony.
With stable reef conditions and adequate space, Green Hydnophora can become a fast-growing and extremely vibrant centerpiece coral.
