Description
Description
The Flagfin Angelfish, also known as the Three Spot Angelfish, is a striking and hardy member of the angelfish family. Its body is primarily a vibrant yellow, accented by a distinct black spot on its forehead and another at the base of its pectoral fin. The dorsal and anal fins are edged in black, and the caudal fin is a bright yellow.
A minimum tank size of 125 gallons is recommended for the Flagfin Angelfish, providing ample space for swimming and plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding. While generally considered more reef-safe than many larger angelfish species, they may occasionally nip at stony and soft corals, as well as clam mantles. Therefore, caution should be exercised when introducing them to a reef aquarium.
The Flagfin Angelfish is hermaphroditic, with no readily apparent visual differences between males and females. Breeding in captivity is extremely difficult. Their diet should consist of a variety of foods including Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods. In a home aquarium, they can reach a size of up to 10 inches.
