Description

The Darwin Ocellaris Clownfish, *Amphiprion ocellaris*, is a captivating and popular choice for marine aquariums. This striking variant of the Ocellaris Clownfish is characterized by its deep, velvety black body and vibrant white bands outlined in black. These bands typically appear on the head, mid-body, and near the tail.

A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended for a single Darwin Ocellaris Clownfish, with larger tanks preferred for pairs or groups. They are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of other non-aggressive marine fish. While they can host anemones such as the Bubble Tip Anemone (*Entacmaea quadricolor*), Sebae Anemone (*Heteractis crispa*), or Long Tentacle Anemone (*Macrodactyla doreensis*), they do not require an anemone to thrive in a home aquarium.

In the wild, Darwin Ocellaris Clownfish are protandrous hermaphrodites, meaning they are born male and can change to female later in life. In an aquarium setting, the largest and most dominant fish in a group will become the female. Breeding in captivity is possible and has been widely successful.

The Darwin Ocellaris Clownfish is an omnivore and will readily accept a varied diet. Offer a mix of high-quality marine flake food, pellets, frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feeding small amounts multiple times a day is beneficial. They typically reach a size of about 3 inches in a home aquarium.
