Bring a burst of color to your reef with our captive-bred Yellow Tangs (Zebrasoma flavescens), measuring approximately 1.5 inches. Known for their iconic bright yellow hue, these tangs thrive on a varied diet of pellets, flakes, nori, and seaweed-based foods. Upon arrival, younger tangs may display a lighter coloration, but they’ll develop their signature deep yellow pigment within a few weeks in your aquarium.

Raised in captivity, our Yellow Tangs adapt well to home aquariums and display peaceful behavior with most dissimilar fish. However, tangs are naturally territorial, so caution is advised when introducing them alongside other tang species. Acrylic acclimation boxes are often recommended for smooth transitions when adding new tangs to established tanks.

  • Recommended Tank Size: Juveniles thrive in smaller tanks while growing but require at least 125 gallons as adults.
  • Diet: Thrives on pellets, nori, spirulina-based flakes, and frozen food blends.
  • Care Level: Moderate – Ideal for reef-safe aquariums.

Yellow Tang Species Information

The Yellow Tang (Zebrasoma flavescens) is native to the Pacific Ocean, with a range extending from Japan to Hawaii. This vibrant species thrives in shallow coral reef habitats, typically at depths of 2 to 46 meters, where it often forms large, active groups. These grazers are constantly on the move during daylight hours, feeding on turf algae growing along the reef.

In an aquarium setting, Yellow Tangs require ample swimming space to accommodate their active nature. A diet rich in algae, including nori and other plant-based foods, helps them maintain their health and vibrant coloration.
