Description
Description
The Bumblebee Goby, *Brachygobius doriae*, is a small, charming goby recognized by its distinctive black and yellow banding, resembling a bumblebee. These peaceful bottom-dwellers are a delightful addition to smaller aquariums.
A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended for a small group of Bumblebee Gobies. They appreciate a sandy or fine gravel substrate and plenty of hiding places among rocks, driftwood, or artificial decorations. While they can tolerate a range of water conditions, they prefer slightly brackish to freshwater environments, with a specific gravity between 1.002 and 1.005 being ideal for long-term health and breeding. They are generally peaceful but can be territorial towards their own kind, especially males during breeding.
Bumblebee Gobies are carnivorous and can be finicky eaters. They primarily feed on small live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. It can be challenging to get them to accept dry foods. Providing a varied diet is crucial for their health and vibrant coloration.
These gobies typically reach a maximum size of about 1.5 inches (4 cm) in the aquarium. While breeding in captivity is possible, it can be challenging. Males are generally smaller and more slender than females, and they will display more intense coloration when ready to breed. They are egg layers, and the male will guard the eggs until they hatch.
