Blue Spot Jawfish

The Blue Spot Jawfish, *Opistognathus rosenblatti*, is a captivating and active addition to the home aquarium. Known for its vibrant blue spots scattered across a pale yellow to white body, this jawfish is a true spectacle as it diligently maintains its burrow in the substrate. Its large eyes and expressive mouth add to its charm.

A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended for a single Blue Spot Jawfish, with larger tanks preferred for multiple individuals. A deep sand bed of at least 4-6 inches is crucial, as this species is a prolific burrower and requires ample substrate to construct its home. Provide a mix of fine sand and small rubble for optimal burrow construction. Live rock can be incorporated into the aquascape, but ensure it is stable and won't collapse on the jawfish's burrow. This species is generally peaceful but can be territorial towards other jawfish or similar burrowing species. They are reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates.

In the wild, Blue Spot Jawfish primarily feed on small invertebrates and zooplankton. In the aquarium, they readily accept a varied diet of high-quality marine flake and pellet foods, as well as frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other meaty foods. Offer food multiple times a day to ensure they receive adequate nutrition.

Blue Spot Jawfish typically reach a size of about 4 inches in the aquarium. While they have been observed to spawn in captivity, breeding is considered challenging. There are no readily apparent visual differences between males and females.
