Description
Description
The Black Ice Snowflake Clownfish, *Amphiprion ocellaris*, is a captivating designer clownfish variety prized for its unique and striking pattern. This particular strain exhibits a predominantly black body with irregular, white "snowflake" markings that vary in size and distribution, creating a one-of-a-kind appearance for each individual. The fins are typically edged in white, further enhancing its visual appeal.
A minimum aquarium size of 20 gallons is recommended for a single Black Ice Snowflake Clownfish, with larger tanks preferred for pairs or community setups. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding places and potential host anemones, although they can thrive without one. They are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of other reef-safe fish.
Like other *Amphiprion ocellaris*, the Black Ice Snowflake Clownfish is a protandrous hermaphrodite, meaning all are born male and the largest individual in a group will transition to female. Breeding in captivity is possible and often sought after by hobbyists. There are no readily distinguishable external differences between males and females other than size.
The Black Ice Snowflake Clownfish is an omnivore and will readily accept a varied diet. Offer a mix of high-quality marine flake food, pellets, frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood, as well as occasional offerings of marine algae or spirulina. In a home aquarium, they typically reach a size of 3 to 4 inches.
