Bellus Angelfish Female

The Bellus Angelfish, *Genicanthus bellus*, is a stunning and graceful addition to the larger marine aquarium. Males display a striking pattern of horizontal blue and yellow stripes on a pale body, while females are a more subdued pale blue with a dark stripe running along the dorsal fin. Both sexes possess elongated fin filaments, adding to their elegant appearance.

A minimum tank size of 125 gallons is recommended to provide ample swimming space and a stable environment. This species is generally considered reef-safe, as they primarily feed on plankton in the wild and are less likely to nip at corals compared to other angelfish species. Provide plenty of live rock with caves and overhangs for hiding and grazing on algae.

The Bellus Angelfish is a protogynous hermaphrodite, meaning all individuals are born female and can change to male later in life. While breeding in captivity is rare, it has been documented. There are distinct visual differences between males and females.

Their diet should consist of a variety of high-quality marine foods, including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, spirulina, marine algae, and angelfish-specific preparations. Offer multiple small feedings throughout the day. In a home aquarium, they typically reach a size of 6-7 inches.
