Ctenochaetus strigosus—better known as the Kole or Yellow Eye Kole Tang—is a hardworking, reef-safe grazer that keeps rock and glass sparkling that comes from the waters of and around Indonesia. This bristletooth tang specializes in film algae and diatoms, using its comb-like teeth to browse all day without nipping corals. Expect calm, constant activity and pops of chestnut and gold with a bright yellow eye ring. Provide strong oxygenation, ample live rock, and open swimming space; a mature 70–90+ gallon system is recommended. Generally peaceful, the Kole Tang may defend its turf against similar-shaped tangs—introduce last or avoid housing with other Ctenochaetus. Feed a varied, algae-rich diet (nori on clips, spirulina pellets, mysis) to maintain color and vitality.
