Description

The Marbled Wrasse, *Symphodus roissali*, is a fascinating and visually appealing addition to a marine aquarium. Its common name aptly describes its intricate pattern of marbled or mottled coloration, which can vary in shades of brown, green, and red, providing excellent camouflage in its natural habitat. This species adds a touch of natural beauty and activity to the reef tank environment.

A minimum tank size of 125 gallons is recommended for the Marbled Wrasse, providing ample space for swimming and exploring. They are considered to have an intermediate care level, requiring a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging. While generally peaceful, they can be territorial towards other wrasses, especially those of similar size or appearance. Careful consideration should be given to tank mates.

In the aquarium, the Marbled Wrasse will actively forage for small invertebrates, making them beneficial for controlling pests like pyramid snails. Their diet should be supplemented with a variety of high-quality marine foods, including frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Offering a diverse diet will ensure their health and vibrant coloration. They are native to the Indo-Pacific region and typically reach a moderate size in captivity. Like many wrasses, they are known for burying themselves in the sand at night or when startled.
