Description
The Seasons Greetings Cyphastrea is a popular aquacultured coral prized for its festive combination of fluorescent green tissue and contrasting red or orange polyps. As it grows, it forms a colorful encrusting mat across rockwork, creating an impressive display under blue and actinic reef lighting.
Cyphastrea generally prefers low to moderate lighting and can often thrive in areas of the aquarium where more light-demanding corals may struggle. Excessively intense lighting can cause bleaching or reduced coloration, so new specimens should be acclimated gradually.
Provide moderate, indirect water flow to help keep the colony clean and deliver nutrients without subjecting the coral to excessive direct current.
The Seasons Greetings Cyphastrea receives most of its nutritional needs through photosynthesis but can also benefit from dissolved nutrients and occasional fine coral foods or plankton-sized foods.
Cyphastrea typically grows by encrusting surrounding rockwork and can eventually cover a substantial area. Leave some space between the colony and neighboring corals to accommodate future growth.
With stable water chemistry and proper placement, the Seasons Greetings Cyphastrea is a hardy, colorful and rewarding coral that works well in both beginner and established reef systems.
